In-Home Dog Training
In-home Training in Vermont
Professional Dog Training that Gets Results!
Our dedication to in-home dog training is one of many reasons we’re the best choice for dog training in Vermont. In-home training is the most effective method because it allows for customized, one-on-one training. Think of it like hiring a private tutor for your pup!
Why In-Home Training?
Group training classes miss the personal element.
All dogs in attendance learn the same techniques at the same pace. If they don’t get it by the end of the course, they don’t graduate. You can either manage with the skills your dog has learned or pay more money to retake the class.
With in-home training, we move at your dog’s pace. You pay one flat fee, and the training isn’t complete until your dog has reached all of the goals laid out in the beginning during the in-home consultation.
Board-and-train programs place your dog in a trainer’s care 24/7.
It sounds great, and it is effective—to a point. If the trainer knows what they’re doing, they’ll spend time with your dog one-on-one, and the other dogs in the facility will help them work on any socialization problems. You should also get clear instructions upon your pup’s return.
However, one critical piece of the training puzzle is missing with board-and-train: you. Your dog will learn to listen to the trainer, and the first thing your dog will do upon returning home is to test you. They’ll want to see if you react to poor behavior the same way the trainer did. Chances are, you won’t, simply because you weren’t involved in the training process.
With Green Mountain Dog Training’s in-home training program, you get to learn with your dog!
We want you to form a relationship with your dog. We want your dog to listen to and respect you. Our team will happily teach you the same skills we know so you can feel confident in your ability to set boundaries with your dog, even when we aren’t present.
Our in-home dog training program has helped dogs with:
- Basic obedience – Help your dog learn: sit, stay, come, lie down, recall, and learn how to keep them focused on you.
- Separation anxiety – If your dog barks, whines, or turns destructive when you leave the home, we can help you help them feel more secure.
- Housetraining – This is pretty self-explanatory. Nothing puts a damper on dog ownership like damp floors.
- Excessive behaviors – This can be chewing, digging, barking, pacing, jumping…anything that your dog seems to do compulsively.
- Poor leash manners – We can help your dog stop pulling at the leash and learn to heel. If they suffer from leash reactivity (lunging at other animals or stimuli during walks), we can help with that, too.
- Acclimating to a new environment – Let us help your dog get used to a new space, new people, and/or new pets.

We even offer special programs for puppy training, aggressive dog training, and preparing your pup for the arrival of a new baby.
